Townerville is a living legacy, an estate of colonial and ethnic-style terrace houses built in the 1920s and now restored to its original splendour. The development is made up of 84 two-storey units. Modern-day conveniences have been added to these ethnic-styled houses to become contemporary homes with spatial luxuries.
Design details from the original houses have been reconstructed to preserve a style that has become part of our national heritage.
Situated at the junction of Towner and May Roads are 34 units built with traditional chinese architectural influence (Type A), feature uniquely shaped facade beams and columns at the entrance. Each spacious unit has two bedrooms, balconies and an open-air courtyard.
Another 26 units built in the Malay architectural influence (Type B) feature pitched roofs, rows of louvred vents and ornamental gable tiles. The units are all of ample size, with two bedrooms and a study each. The study opens out to a roof deck which is connected to the courtyard below via a spiral staircase.
The remaining 24 units fronting McNair Road reflect the European architectural style (Type C). It is spacious and distinguishable with arched porticoes, facing bricks and glasspanelled doors and windows. The units all have a living room, a dining room, three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a study.
